- More features and options than industrial machines
- Types are available for home sewing, quilting or embroidery
- Most machines are smaller and lighter so they can be moved around easily
Industrial Machines
- Fast powerful and reliable workhorse machines- usually used in commercial sewing companies, tailor shops etc. where high volume sewing is needed
- Very heavy duty, sew all types of fabrics up to leather and vinyl
- Mostly less features than home machines, ex. usually they don’t have zig-zag and decorative stitches
- Large and heavy so these are not portable

2 Machine Options
A. Used – there are some benefits to buying a used machine to get started sewing. Buying a used machine is a cheaper option when learning to sew. It allows you to not spend full price for a machine that you may not end up wanting to keep for the long run. With so. Many machine options it could be a good idea to just buy a used Machine just to learn and when you know more about machjne you can get the exact machine for the kinds of projects you want to make
B. New – if you already have a good idea of the kind of machine you like and want a machine that’s brand new and never been used by anyone else the there are plenty of new machine choices. Many stores carry new machine or theee are dedicated sewing shop with tons of new machine options

My work machine
This is a Juki Industrial sewing machine Model DDL-8000A.
This machine is a straight stitch only machine
This is a computerized machine. The computer lets me control things like:
- stitch speed
- needle end position, up or down when stopping a stitch
- turning the thread cutting feature on or off
- auto stitch length – set a number of stitches, press the pedal once and machine stops automatically
